Fishing Reports & PhotosSOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO FOCUS ON ONE THING OR THE OTHER!
Ralph Reed & crew were hoping for some meatfish and marlin.... so I so my game plan starting the day was trying for a few tuna, then shifting to billfishing, which are in the same general area right now, you just need to adjust your trolling spread & speed..... anyway, fair number boats fishing for tuna first thing, and a few fish were showing on top.....boats racing towards them..... got leading edge heading towards one bunch, got a good pass, had fish hit my three long baits, poles bent over, and damm if all three didn't come off.....grrrrrrrrr..... worked north and had a white marlin get after us which we switched off a tuna bait, hooked it, but it threw the hook jumping as we were circling & clearing too many baits.....fished for 3 more hours with the tuna spread out, chased a bunch of fast moving fish around for a while, hard to get them to bite this time of year, and finally caught one......put the marlin spread out, raised another and hooked it but same deal....circling it threw the hook, dammittt!!! Set back out and damm if we didn't get hit by the tunas....two big fish on light rods..... one broke the swivel after 10 minutes, and the other was on steroids....took an hour & 1/2 to boat, while boats all around us were catching white marlins & sailfish..... its good I haven't had a cigarette in 4 months or I would have had one in each nostril....anyway.....that was our day!! Ralph Reed and crew did have a nice pair of 52 & 54 lb yellowfins, and for a change, the seas were calm and comfortable after a rough week!!
