OREGON INLET CHARTERBOATS BANQUET
Posted on 04 Nov 2017 by captainjeff
Towards the end of each year, the crews and ladies of the Oregon Inlet charter boat fleet get together for a season ending banquet.... prime rib, soft crabs, open bar, good band, door prizes from generous vendors around the Outer Banks, dancing and lots of fun..... And awards are given out.... and this year my deckhand of 2 1/2 years was voted MATE OF THE YEAR.... which those of you who fished with us know was well deserved.... and we also earned a trophy for most blue marlin on the east side team that I was on for our east/west billfish competition.

MEATFISH GRAND SLAM TO END OUR 2017 FISHING SEASON
Posted on 31 Oct 2017 by captainjeff
John Thomas' crew from all over the east coast had decent action today but we were all a bit dissapointed.... had great water conditions and marked fish all day but they were just not biting.... John, from Wrightsville Beach, did boat a citation earning 41# wahoo.

This is my last trip of the season.....I will be ending my fishing season early this year than normal, hauling boat out of water Nov 1 and doing a boatwork project in November & December this year, but I will run charters again next November.

Thanks to all of you who fished with us this year... hope to see you again next year... I will post updates on the boatyard project and off couse our fishing in Mexico starting in January.

I HAVE TWO GUYS LOOKING FOR TWO MORE TO JOIN THEM THIS TUESDAY OCTOBER 31.... CALL ME IF INTERESTED

WE NEED A BREAK IN THE WEATHER!!!
Posted on 26 Sep 2017 by captainjeff
Seems like months since we have been able to get offshore..... hurricanes, northeasters, big seas..... it has got to end sometime..... maybe this weekend which long range forecasts looking questionable..... Fishing should be good when all subsides, but who knows when that will be......
In the meantime, I have been getting some surfishing for big red drum in, and have done welll, catching eight so far this fall in the 35-45# class range....... and got a surprise a few nights ago, hooking a fish that almost dumped me, got into the current and after a 45 minute battle, I beached my first COBIA ever (on the beach), a 71# lunker!!

TOUGH MONTH!!
Posted on 23 Sep 2017 by captainjeff
BIG SEAS IN THE INLET PREVENTED ANY ONE FROM GETTING OUT THE LAST FEW DAYS AND NOW MAYBE A HURRICANE COMING THIS WAY.... FISHING OFFSHORE UNLIKELY TILL MAYBE NEXT WEEKEND.....OUCH!!

FINALLY GOING FISHING TOMORROW
Posted on 21 Sep 2017 by captainjeff
BIG SEAS HAVE KEPT EVERYONE FROM FISHING.....FINALLY GETTING OUT TOMORROW

HERE YESTERDAY, GONE TODAY!!
Posted on 15 Sep 2017 by captainjeff
With great expectations we headed offshore for last day of Ocean City Light Tackle Club Marlin Tournament... found the good water from the day before, but fishing was very slow... We were on the lucky side to be one of five boats with two fish thanks to my crew of Richard BARRAZOTTO and Bo Wisehut each hooking the two whites we did raise.... maybe they will bite better tomorrow!

THE WHITE MARLIN MUST HAVE FALLEN FROM THE SKY!!
Posted on 14 Sep 2017 by captainjeff
Yesterday was the first day of the Ocean City Light Tackle Club Marlin Tournament and the first day out in a while.... we found a body of beautiful warm water but only a few marlin in it.... we never saw one yesterday... bunch of mahi was all..... but I was thinking maybe the water would collect some fish... and we got out there today and lo and behold, where there were none yesterday, today GOOD MARLIN FISHING.... John Beddow, Chuck Dinapoli and Pat Svehla caught 6 white marlin, including a triple header... and a few boats did better than us including two with double digits.... hopefully we have a few more weeks of good fishing.... lots of dolphin and tuna around with the marlin as well!!

HOPEFULLY GOING FISHING TOMORROW
Posted on 12 Sep 2017 by captainjeff
THE WHOLE FLEET HAS BEEN TIED TO THE DOCK WITH BIG SEAS FROM IRMA OFFSHORE...... SCHEDULED TO FISH THE NEXT FOUR DAYS IF SEAS SUBSIDE.... STILL 10FT OFFSHORE.... GOOD SHOWING IN VIRGINIA BEACH BILLFISH TOURNAMENT!!!
Posted on 29 Aug 2017 by captainjeff
Bob Fischer, Danny Hope, Charley Townes & new crew member Craig Sudbrink, along with deckhands Joe Bonvetti and Tyler Sudbrink did a great job in an exciting tournament for the Obsession. The first day, we stayed on the sailfish and with Bob leading the way with 3 releases, we ended up in first place at the end of the day and won the daily prize, as well as weighed in the top wahoo, a 45# fish boated by Charley Townes.

The second day, I could not get on the fish.... We caught one sailfish early, but pulled the hook on two more later in the day, and I missed another one.... BOOOO!!!
So we ended up the tournament in 5th place out of 75 boats, we won the daily for most billfishes the first day, and the Wahoo held up so we won the prize for the biggest Wahoo...... and we had a great time celebrating at the awards banquet.

GRAND SLAM
Posted on 28 Aug 2017 by captainjeff

Last Tuesday, my Virginia Beach Tournament group chartered me to fish up to Virginia Beach to scout around before the tournament..... paid off in spades!! Bob Fischer started the day with a sailfish release, then Danny Hope caught a white marlin, and then Bob did a fantastic job in a grueling down and dirty battle on light tackle with a 125# blue marlin to give us a GRAND SLAM..... went into Virginia Beach that night with our chests poked out and a positive attitude for the tournament.... and it paid off!!

THE FOLLOWING PHOTOS ARE COMPLIMENTS OF LINDSEY TREADWAY OF THE 70# BLUE MARLIN CAUGHT BY HER DAUGHTER GALE LAST WEEKEND.

NEEDED MORE ANGLERS!!
Posted on 22 Aug 2017 by captainjeff

Beautiful day... David Bauer, from Alexandria, VA has fished by himself the day before we head up to Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament for at least the last 10 years.... today he started the day with a exciting white marlin release.... later we raised 3 or 4 sails but David only got one as chaos and crossed lines ensued and one jumped off and the other was not hooked.

CAPTAIN CAN'T HOOK SHIT!
Posted on 21 Aug 2017 by captainjeff
Beautiful day, decent action, we boated a nice tuna and then Nick Veteri, from Philadelphia caught his first sailfish and Dominic Santoro, also from Philly also caught his first billfish, a very acrobatic white marlin.......but we should have had a few more but the captain of the Obsession missed two and a third that he hooked threw the hook..... BOOOOO!!!
Funny, there was a fair bite going on but when the eclipse started it pretty much shut down.

MARLIN AND MAHI!
Posted on 20 Aug 2017 by captainjeff
We actually found a grass line with dolphin around it today... not very large ones, but Everett & Lindsey Treadway, from Ashland, VA and crew boated a limit of small school dolphin on light tackle.... AND their daughter 12 year old daughter Cali Treadway caught and released a 75# blue marlin which she did a great job bringing to the boat unassisted

AND I had a hitchhiker join me on the bridge for an hour or so......

nice guy that I am I gave him a free ride!!

FATHER AND SON EARN CITATIONS!
Posted on 19 Aug 2017 by captainjeff
Michael Kiter & his sons Nicholas and 12 year old Westley all caught and released sailfish today.

PIRATES COVE BILLFISH TOURNAMENT
Posted on 18 Aug 2017 by captainjeff
We fished our three days of the Pirates Cove Billfish tournament... had good action but won no prizes... First day we rolled the dice and headed south looking for sailfish...... started off great and were keeping up with good action on white marlin up north, but then the sailfish stopped biting for all the boats on the south end and up north the whites kept biting....so even though we had a good day, with Robert Crowder, Shani Diggs, Charles Townes and Mason Camp each catching a sailfish we ended the day in the twelft place...
The second day did not go well... we had four good oportunities but we san cochoed, wifffttt, screwed up and to end the day zing-powwedd four or five good white marlin bites ..... Robert Crowder caught our only fish of the day.
The last day, we did great, hooking and catching five of our six chances, jumping off one and stayed in the race for the daily all day, but fell a bit short, ending up forth in the race for the daily prize out of 75 boats.... everyone caught a fish yesterday, Charles Sr & Charley Townes, Mason & Robert Crowder all did a great job. RIght now we are in 13 th place but a number of boats are fishing their last day today.

ALICE KELLY LADIES FISHING TOURNAMENT
Posted on 14 Aug 2017 by captainjeff
A beauitiful day on the water for the ladies..... we had a lot of action and were in the running all day.... Top boat released 4 billfish and we were tied with6 other boats that all had three billfish.... Monica Witt, Abby Long & Kelly Cassidy did outstanding catching a sailfish a apiece..... we pulled the hook early on another sailfish.... Laura battled a blue marlin for a half hour, which would have given us second place out of 97 boats ( and Alice Kelly tournament record) but the light leader unfortunately chaffed off. But the weather was great and the girls had a blast.

FATHER AND SON EARN CITATIONS!
Posted on 12 Aug 2017 by captainjeff
Sam Coburn & his son's, from Summit, NJ took their first marlin fishing trip with us yesterday..... marlin fishing is still hit or miss along the whole east coast right now with lots of green water.... but Sam did catch & release a white marlin, and son Brian did a great job boating a 152# bigeye tuna.

JOSEPH DIPICATRO, FROM PUNISUTAWNEY, PA CAUGHT 275# BLUE MARLIN ON FIRST OFFSHORE FISHING TRIP!
Posted on 10 Aug 2017 by captainjeff

MIKE LUSCITA & CREW, FROM CONNECTICUT EACH BOATED A 60# YELLOWFIN
Posted on 09 Aug 2017 by captainjeff

PHOTOS FROM RICK KRADER OF 200# BLUE MARLIN HE CAUGHT THE OTHER DAY.
Posted on 08 Aug 2017 by captainjeff

SHARKS!!!
Posted on 08 Aug 2017 by captainjeff
Andrew Smith and his sons had lots of action yesterday, with both young boys boating 35-45# yellowfin, and everyone bringing a 75# class dusky shark along side the boat.... we hooked several of them them damm sharks while slowed up fighting tuna and even hooked one in the mouth on a silver spoon on a deep rig..... fortunately we did boat some tuna but damm if the sharks didn't get more than half of them..... the whole fleet had to head in early as storms move in over us.

NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD SAY IT BUT IT WAS TOO CALM!!
Posted on 04 Aug 2017 by captainjeff
Radio reception was excellent on VHFs and from Hatteras to Ocean City I could hear captains talking about slow fishing.... Even the tilefish weren't biting very well..... We did have some action Edwin Faunce, from Doylestown, PA released an acrobatic white marlin caught on light tackle, Rick Krader did a great job on a big yellowfin tuna on light tackle, only to have the hook pull with the leader on the reel and the fish in sight..... Fortunately after that heartbreak, we hooked a 200# blue marlin.... awesome shortrigger bite, and John Pisklak, from Lebanon, PA did a great job catching the fish after 1/2 hour battle.

MARLINS SHOWING UP!!
Posted on 02 Aug 2017 by captainjeff
MORGAN TAYLOR, FROM SHARPSBURG, MD CAUGHT A LARGE WHITE MARLIN TO START THE DAY

DAVID BILLUPS FROM BEL AIR,MD CAUGHT A BLUE MARLIN AROUND 175# ON LIGHT STANDUP TACKLE AND DAVID BURKE, FROM EGG HARBOR NEW JERSEY CAUGHT A WHITE MARLIN AT THE SAME TIME.... COCKPIT CHAOS TO SAY THE LEAST... SAW ANOTHER SMALL BLUE THAT WOULD NOT EAT AND JUMPED OFF ANOTHER WHITE......
